Apparently onion and cabbage seeds can be found at the bazaar according to their season (cabbages in the spring, onions in the summer), but not once did I ever see them being sold, not even in the first year of playing apparently if you reset the game the day before the bazaar you can see them, but it still did nothing for me. If I had to mention flaws, it would be the storage units and the randomization of certain items sold. There are barrels to reach certain places, too. This makes it super handy to reach the bazaar in time to sell off your items, and some bugs for hunting can only be found atop those certain ledges. Unlike the previous games, there is a new control that I was ecstatic to discover upon first playing: jumping! That’s right, you can jump from place to place in this game there are shortcuts from the area below your farm to the main part of Zephyr Town to the outskirts where a hotel and third windmill in the game are located. In fact all of the characters are designed well – their clothing fits the Dutch-influenced setting of Zephyr Town, and it was really hard to pick which bachelor I wanted to try and marry (I played the girl, and will play the boy next time I pick it up). The number of bachelors versus bachelorettes are equal, and the character design of each one is great. Like the previous games, you can get married and raise a family, and this is one of the titles where you can play as either a boy or a girl.

Some festivals are there to just increase Friendship Points with the villagers, while others are held to win prizes. As for festivals, in addition to the classic horse racing and New Year’s Eve, there are others such as the Pumpkin Festival where kids drop by for trick-or-treating, a gourmet cooking festival spanning two days, and a Snowboarding competition in the winter season. The festivals and gift-giving make a comeback, with some additional activities bug hunting is one of the new ones, while fishing and foraging around the village also return. You can raise your reputation as a bazaar stall owner by answering to queries and quotes from customers who approach you. You can earn pretty cool stuff from the bazaar by raising your reputation over time such as teas, wines, jewels, and specialty gourmet ingredients such as truffles, coffee beans, good cheeses, and more. The weekly bazaar allows you to take all of the things you produce on your farm and sell them for twicefold to customers, and the more money you make, the better prizes you win the day after.

The basic elements from the previous games in the series – farming – is back, but with some new challenges on top of raising barn animals for milk and wool, planting and harvesting crops, training your horse, and playing with your pets. By moving in to town and owning a farm, you are on the path to helping Zephyr Town’s bazaar become the best ever once again.

Zephyr Town once held the best bazaar in the world, but lately it hosts more tumbleweeds than customers. The story goes like this: you are new to the town of Zephyr (named appropriately for its reliance on wind energy, hence the windmills). 2008 (JA)/2010 (NA)ĭeveloped by Natsume and Marvelous, Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar both sustains its roots from its predecessors in the series and ups the ante with its addition of a weekly bazaar to sell off items and windmills to help process farming materials.
